Detailed Safari Itinerary

A quick efficient itinerary taking you to the best location in the Serengeti based on your travel date. Quick short flights departing from Arusha Airport (ARK) or Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) in small 18 -22 passenger planes maximize your game viewing time. Your Hike, Talk, Stay Adventures safari guide and vehicle will be waiting for you at the airstrip ready to greet you and proceed with a game drive.

Serengeti National Park is large and has several airstrips spread throughout the park. So according to your desires and the game viewing for your particular time of travel we will arrange the flight and accommodation. For the months of December - March the southern portion of the Serengeti (Ndutu) is ideal with the migration herds grazing in this area. During this time zebras give birth in December-January and wildebeest give birth typically in February. From July - October northern Serengeti (Kogatende) is the place to be with the wildebeest herds congregating and crossing the Mara River. Other times of the year central Serengeti (Seronera) is best. Central Serengeti is reliably good throughout the year and has a large population of lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

Day 1: After breakfast at your hotel, we will drive you to either Kilimanjaro Airport or Arusha Airport where you will board your flight into the Serengeti. There may be some quick stops along the way picking up/dropping off passengers at other safari airstrips but you will arrive at your destination in the late morning/early afternoon. At the airstrip your safari guide and safari vehicle will be waiting for you to go straight on a game drive with a picnic-style lunch brought along. In the early evening we will head to your accommodation where you will have time to relax, enjoy dinner and get a good night sleep.

Day 2: This day is all yours to enjoy game viewing and the safari accommodation. You can communicate with your guide how you want to spend your time. There is an option to include an early morning balloon safari either this morning or the next morning (advance reservation required - this addition will increase your trip price by $600/person). The actual airtime of the balloon safari is approximately one hour and will include a picnic style full English breakfast with sparking wine/juice. The experience would end by late morning and you can continue your day's schedule. This day can be either have a picnic-style lunch enjoyed during your game drive, or you can relax and take your lunch at your safari accommodation. Your dinner and overnight rest will be at the same accommodation.

Day 3: Another full day in the Serengeti to enjoy as you please. The itinerary is in your control so communicate with your guidehow you want to spend the day. Dinner and overnight will be at the same accommodation.

Day 4: After breakfast your guide will take you to the airstip for your flight back to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro Airport. Your Hike, Talk, Stay Adventure prepresentative will be there to meet you.Note that for your safari flight the planes have strict luggage weight restrictions. There is a 15kg maximum (carry-in included). If you want to take more than that on safari, the day before you start your trip you can give your safari guide the extra luggage to take in the safari vehicle. At the end of the safari he will be driving back with that same luggage, arriving that evening. If you plan on flying home this same day, you would not be able to have the safari driver carry any extra luggage back. There are also flights from the Serengeti to Zanzibar if you want to include a beach holiday, see the Zanzibar page.
